For the last two years, my oldest makes valentines for his classmates. I take this opportunity to join along side him in sharing the love. Still on the linoleum printing kick, I carved three different blocks, mixed colors per request and we set to work printing pre-painted cardboard, plain paper and paper that had been previously water colored.
Although I’ve had success printing cardboard in the past, it was hard for the kids to get a clear impression. I don’t think that mattered much since it created cool effects regardless. Plus, their favorite part lies in process — rolling the roller over the tacky ink and stamping. What a messy, fascinating and rewarding process block printing has become for us.
